Description
This specimen features a prominent group of intergrown proustite crystals on a bed of light pink rhodochrosite crystals. The main proustite group (1 cm) is comprised of three crystals – they are sharp and lustrous, and in normal light they apper silvery and metallic. Under stronger backlighting, the deep internal red is visible. In this main group, the proustite crystals are in excellent condition except that the termination at left is incomplete – some surfaces at that end seem to have a crystallization texture and I suspect an event before the end of the crystallization phase was involved. There are several small (mostly micro) sharp, red proustite crystals on this specimen.
Nice, good-sized proustite on a pretty rhodochrosite background.
