Pyrite

Specimen # 102142
Mineral: Pyrite
Location: Pyrite, Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Dos de Mayo Province, Huanuco Dept., Peru
Size: 7.1 x 5.8 x 5.0 cm

Description

A cluster of brilliant pyrite crystals, with some quartz.

Although these pyrite cyrstals appear to exhibit incredibly complex combinations of mulptile forms, they show the classic combination of two forms – the pyritohedron and the octahedron. There are tiny, slender diploid faces on a couple of these crystals as well. It’s interesting that lower on the specimen, many of the smaller crystals are unmodifed pyritohedra.

This specimen is in excellent condition (no damage except one small chip – as displayed, it’s either out of view or or lower on the piece and not prominent, depending on the angle).

These are beautiful, bright pyrite crystals!
