Pyrite

Specimen # 102141
Mineral: Pyrite
Location: Pyrite, Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Dos de Mayo Province, Huanuco Dept., Peru
Size: 6.5 x 5.5 x 3.4 cm

Description

A group of mirror-bright pyrite crystals, stacked in a tower. The cystals are predominantly octahedral, with dodecahedral and pyritohedral modifications. The specimen is crystallized all-around, with some tiney sphalerite crystals on the back. In exceptional condition, a couple of tiny chips can be found with a search – this specimen is that good. The point underneath where this was originally attached to surrounding rock has a crystallization pattern as well, so it detached sometime before all crystallization processes were complete.

This is a gorgeous cluster of pyrite crystals.
