Pyrite

Specimen # 200559
Mineral: Pyrite
Location: County Road 38, NW of Republic, Seneca Co., Ohio, USA
Size: 6.5 x 5.2 x 4.6 cm

Description

A cluster of beautiful lustrous pyrite crystals from the Pete Richards collection. This concretion hosts sharp cuboctahedral crystals. From the Pete Richards collection, he acquired it in September, 1995. The exact locality is indeed obscure: Pete provides it as “Shore of a pond near a landfill, S. side CR 38 in NE 1/4, Section 6, 3 mi NW of Republic, Ohio”.  Pete’s notes indicated that it apparently formed in glacial clay in the stream swale. A really nice Ohio pyrite!
