Quartz (“Herkimer Diamond”)

Specimen # 103198
Mineral: Quartz ("Herkimer Diamond")
Location: Ace of Diamonds Mine, Middleville, Town of Newport, Herkimer Co., USA
Size: 5.8 x 3.3 x 2.6 cm

Description

A stunning cluster of “Herkimer Diamond” quartz crystals – these are brilliant, sharp, lustrous and transparent. This specimen makes it easy to see how the crystals from here were likened to cut diamonds.  In excellent condition, no damage. As with all such clusters from Herkimer, the crystals are found in pockets detached from one another, and are then fitted together and re-attached once collected. From the Tracy Kimmel Collection, and prior to Tracy from the John S. White Collection (with his label). This is an absolutely fantastic specimen!
