Detailed Description

This is a very three-dimensional cluster of quartz crystals, many of which contain red phantoms. The quartz crystals are varying degrees of transparency, with the water-clear ones showing superb, well-defined phantoms. The specimen sits nicely, flat for display, but I would mount it as in ths first photo to raise the best of the phantoms up a bit at the back. There is a doubly-terminated crystal on this one – these were rare in the pocket. In excellent condition, no damage, one low, smaller crystal at the front periphery has a contact. A great red phantom quartz.

About these Red Phantom Quartz Specimens

These quartz crystals with red phantoms from Orange River are from a pocket found in 2016. Red quartz has been produced from this locality for many years, however, long-time South African dealer Clive Queit told me he has never seen any he liked as much as these, because these have such distinct red phantoms enclosed in sharp, clear quartz crystals – in his view they are the best.
