Quartz, var. Smoky Quartz

Specimen # 201218
Mineral: Quartz, var. Smoky Quartz
Location: Ghiac, Triolet Glacier, Val Ferret, Courmayeur, Aosta Valley, Italy
Size: 10.1 x 9.3 x 5.2 cm

Description

This is a beautiful smoky quartz specimen from the Mont Blanc massif. The crystals are sharp, highly lustrous and water clear with a wonderful smoky hue, contrasting with a bit of white feldspar in association with the quartz. The piece features a superb doubly-terminated crystal across the top, and the crystal about half way down on the left is also superb, doubly-terminated with great forms.

In excellent condition, a couple of small feldspar contacts and only a couple of very small chips – it is super!

From the John S. White Collection, he acquired it from Corrado Vietti.

The Triolet Glacier is a famous Alpine quartz locality on the Italian side of Mont Blanc, and this specimen is a classic!
