Description
This specimen features a group of flat, twinned rhodochrosite crystals nestled in the middle of a bed of elpidite crystals. The rhodochrosite crystals are pink with darker red central zoning, and the elpidtite crystals are grey with a decent lustre for elpidite. There is also albite in association. The rhodochrosites are in excellent condition – no damage except a tiny imconplete crystal at the right-hand periphery. The rhodochrosite crystals seem to have interacted with the silicates on forming, and so in spots there are frosted bits of elpidite and albite on their surfaces. A nice combination specimen from the 2004 rhodochrosite-elpidite pocket at Mont Saint-Hilaire.
