Rutilated Quartz

Specimen # 100953
Mineral: Rutilated Quartz
Location: Novo Horizonte, Bahia, Brazil
Size: 7.6 x 4.6 x 1.4 cm

Description

This transparent, tabular quartz crystal hosts bright golden rutile crystals to approximately 3 cm in length. Most of the rutile crystals are completely included within the quartz crystal, and a few are actually exposed on the surface of the back of the crystal. Some of the rutile crystals show sharp well-defined terminations, while others are extremely fine needles. The quartz crystal is doubly-terminated, and for most of its length it is about 1 cm thick. The lower termination of the quartz crystal is a bit cloudy and a little less lustrous, it may have grown up close to matrix, but is not contacted. In superb condition for a natural (unpolished) rutilated quartz crystal, minor chips in a couple of spots (a small one at upper right that seems partly recrystallized, and a few others visible with magnification). This is a beautiful piece.
