Rutile

Specimen # 200461
Mineral: Rutile
Location: Graves Mountain, Lincoln Co., Georgia, USA
Size: 6.1 x 5.6 x 4.0 cm

Description

From the world’s preeminent rutile locality, a large blocky deep red rutile crystal with minor pyrophyllite. This crystal is not fully developed, such that it is about half a crystal (the back being incomplete) – it appears that its development was partly interrupted by the pyrophyllite and by adjoining rutile (evidenced by contacts). However, it has many crystal faces, and some spots of deep red internal colour, and looks good from the display angle, as photographed. A large rutile crystal for a great price. From the Pete Richards collection, personally collected on December 6, 1986.
