Sphalerite, Quartz

Specimen # 200059
Mineral: Sphalerite, Quartz
Location: Madan Ore Field, Rhodope Mountains, Smolyan Oblast, Bulgaria
Size: 7.0 x 6.4 x 4.6 cm

Description

This piece features mirror-bright inter-penetrating crystals of sphalerite on crystalline galena with sprays of quartz crystals. The sphalerite crystals are sharp and so lustrous – as sphalerite crystals go, they are the darkest black and do not have as metallic a look as some sphalerite crystals do (their lustre is fairly glassy). This is a bit hard to make out from the photos since they are reflecting metallic reflectors. There are transparent quartz crystals in association – these are sharp and lustrous. In excellent condition, a couple ot tiny nicks and one small incomplete spot on a sphalerite. Stands perfectly for display on a saw-cut base. These are exquisite sphalerite crystals!
