Spodumene, var. Kunzite

Specimen # 200580
Mineral: Spodumene, var. Kunzite
Location: Kunar Province, Afghanistan
Size: 4.0 x 1.2 x 0.6 cm

Description

This parallel-growth crystal of kunzite is sharp, with good form. The colour is a nice light lilac-pink hue – as always with spodumene, the colour is more intense looking from the termination. The broad prism faces are deeply striated. In excellent condition – a small chip on a back edge (ie behind, seen in the second photo, but not seen as I’d display it). From the Pete Richards collection (#5445), the label simply says Kunar, but it is almost certainly from the Dara-e-Pech pegmatite field, Dara-e-Pech District, in Kunar Province. A beautiful sharp kunzite crystal.
