Detailed Description
A beautiful specimen of both minerals, this is a tall magnesite matrix with brilliant sharp lustrous transparent-translucent magnesite crystals. On top are perched pristine, glassy fluor-uvite crystals. The fluor-uvite crystals are colour zoned, with green and golden hues. A fantastic display specimen from Brumado – a super magnesite and a super fluor-uvite
About Brumado Tourmalines in the Fluor-Uvite – Uvite Series
In this profile, I have labelled these specimens fluor-uvite, with the following explanation. Until the more recent IMA reclassification of the Tourmaline Supergroup, these specimens were known as uvite. It is now impossible to distinguish individual specimens in the fluor-uvite – uvite series without advanced analytical techniques. These techniques have not been applied to these individual specimens. However, The RRUFF Project has confirmed that at least some crystals of this appearance from Brumado are fluor-uvite, and I’m not aware of any analytical work that has confirmed the presence of uvite at Brumado. Uvite is much less common than fluor-uvite. The label which accompanies the specimen says “Fluor-Uvite – Uvite”
