Description
Detailed Description
This is a great Brumado specimen! It hosts fluor-uvite – uvite crystals of the highest quality: razor-sharp, glassy, lustrous, translucent. In addition, excellent crystals of svanbergite are sprinkled around, all on a bed of sparkling, lustrous magnesite crystals. Although small, the magnesite crystals are also high quality, with sharpness, lustre and transparency. Brumado has always been a sporadic source of limited numbers of specimens, and this specimen came out years ago (most specimens one sees were collected in the past).
About Brumado Tourmalines in the Fluor-Uvite – Uvite Series
In this profile, I have labelled these specimens fluor-uvite, with the following explanation. Until the more recent IMA reclassification of the Tourmaline Supergroup, these specimens were known as uvite. It is now impossible to distinguish individual specimens in the fluor-uvite – uvite series without advanced analytical techniques. These techniques have not been applied to these individual specimens. However, The RRUFF Project has confirmed that at least some crystals of this appearance from Brumado are fluor-uvite, and I’m not aware of any analytical work that has confirmed the presence of uvite at Brumado. Uvite is much less common than fluor-uvite. The label which accompanies the specimen says “Fluor-Uvite – Uvite”.
